florence train station to town

I will be in Florence about Feb 6 and will be traveling by train from Rome. Can you walk to town from the train station or do you need to take a cab? Thanks

Dear Nina, we walked with a rolling suitcase, but our hotel was only a couple long blocks from the station. I would recommend staying far away from the station & the main roads - VERY noisy all night long.

Dear Nina,
the main railway station of FLorence is Firenze Santa MAria Novella and it is in the centre of the town.
Buon viaggio.

Basically *all* the tourist sites and the *vast* majority of hotels are located within a 1sq/mi (1.6sq/km) area. In this square the train station is in the extreme upper lefthand corner. Regards, Walter

it´s very near from the town center. As a reference - the train station is in the on the other side of the square and church of sta Maria Novella, if you come from the river Arno.
Have fun. Firenze is a magnific city, oh...one last thing, there´s a cheap and familiar type restaurant near by, in the street of the hotel Croce di Malta, named Lion´s cave. It´s cheap and the pizza is fantastic ( try with rucola...hmmm)
