Florence to Sorrento, then Sorrento to Rome help

Hi, I've been on the Trenitalia site, and whenever I plugged in Florence to Sorrento, or Florence to Naples, I get back "no solution found"

Then I did a round trip from Rome to Naples - same thing, no solution found.

We're starting in Venice, had no problem getting from Venice to Florence.

Can I go from Florence to Sorrento (I think it's to Naples, change trains to Sorrento), or do I have to go from Florence to Rome and then to Sorrento?

Is there a better way to get to Sorrento from Florence, is there a reasonable bus that's a good alternative?

Does anyone know how long this will take?

Not looking at the Euro's needed to hire a private driver.

Thanks.

Ok, I was just trying everything I know to do on Trenitalia. For some reason if you are on the English part you have to put in Florence not Firenze. But you can put in Napoli...go figure...it's Italian. What you have to do is go from Florence to Naples. Then in Naples go down stairs and take the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento. You don't need a reservation for the Circum because it's a commuter type train and it goes periodically. From Florence to Naples in June (I don't know when you're going) is about 101 Euro per person. You can't buy the tickets online because Trenitalia doesn't accept US or Canadian credit cards and very few British. If you go to the station when you arrive in Florence and buy your tickets, you'll be fine. The train from Florence to Naples (If you take the fast train) is about 3 hours. Then the circumvesuviana is another 45 minutes to an hour.

Search Trenitalia timetables here:

http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html

Use English or Italian spelling, but search Florence/Firenze to Naples/Napoli.

The Naples-Sorrento portion is not operated by Trenitalia, so search its timetable here using the "Schedule your trip" link.

Roma-Napoli Centrale:
You are probably looking up a train schedule too far in the future where there is no published schedule yet. The schedule does not change much. Use next month's dates.

Firenze-Sorrento:
The Trainitalia does NOT run to Sorrento, so you will not be able to see the schedule. You must divide the trip into Firenze-Napoli Centrale (or Salerno if your final destination is Amalfi, Ravello, or Positano).

You also can't search more than several weeks into the future, so if you're traveling on a Wednesday in September search a Wednesday later this month or in June.

Thanks for all the help. I'm looking for October, so that's probably why!

I'll bookmark this for the future.
