Florence to Siena to Rome
What is the fastest way to get from Florence to Siena (spend 2 nights in Siena) and then on to Rome?
Does anyone recommend spending only 1 night in Siena? Thanks! |
Why do you need fastest? Bus is most recommended since it drops you off closer to the town than the train would.

The above is in regard to the Florence to Siena portion.

I believe you can take a train to Rome from Siena but you'd have to backtrack all the way to Florence.
There used to be some sort of express bus from Siena to Rome. |
I thought that there was a bus, and there is:
www.sena.it here's the timetable: https://boa.busbookingline.it/web/eu...f0s3q6c0cc3qm3 it goes to Roma Tibertina and takes just under 3 hours. better than the train as you don't need to back track to Florence. |
>>>What is the fastest way to get from Florence to Siena<<<
The rapid Sita bus is faster than the train and drops you at the historic center (the train is station is not as close and you would have to take transport to the center). There is a bit slower Sita bus that makes a stop or two (Poggibonsi)before arriving Siena. >>>and then on to Rome? <<< The Sena bus is faster than the train and doesn't require changes (the train does). >>>it goes to Roma Tibertina and takes just under 3 hours. better than the train as you don't need to back track to Florence.<<<< You don't have to backtrack to Florence as you can take the train from Siena to Chiusi and change there for Rome. The Sena bus is the better option though as these trains are old, usually don't have AC and certainly don't have other amenities. Luggage is easier on the bus as it's stored underneath and you don't have to worry with it. >>>it goes to Roma Tibertina<<< Tibertina is on the metro, is a major bus hub for Rome also. >>>Does anyone recommend spending only 1 night in Siena?<<< I enjoy Siena and have stayed there multiple times. Whether one night is worth it or not depends on the rest of your schedule. I'm not a fan of one nighters (or even two), but if you depart Florence in the morning, get to Siena in time to enjoy an afternoon, depart Siena for Rome later the next day (Sena has about 10 departures per day) you would have time to see quite a bit. You would need to stay in the historic center. |
Thank you this is all very helpful!
