Florence to Siena by car

I decided to drive instead of public transportation from Florence to Siena. What is a good route to take? Can I drive through the Chianti region?
Thanks

About how long would it take to Siena once I get on the highway out of Florence?

Mike--Use www.viamichelin.com to chart routes, distances and times for your travels. That and a good map should answer most of your questions.

Also that website may be of assistance in giving you a practical location for your intended daytrips. I note you are also concerned about reservations in the area (from another thread). I suggest you find one location available now, reserve it and daytrip from there--depending on how many days you have unreserved. Good luck.

Just to clarify, Mike, you mentioned "highway" in reference to S222, the Chianti road. It's hardly a "highway" in the sense of "highway" in the States - 4 lanes, divided. It's a secondary road, generally two lanes - but wonderful and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

Is the parking in Siena a real problem?
I thought I read that somewhere.
Thanks

look for parking signs reading "Campo" that is probably the best place to park in Siena.
