Florence to Siena

What is the fastest and cheapest way to get from Florence to Siena? I was planning on taking the train, but is the bus faster and cheaper?

Yes ! And drops you in the walled city

Definitly the bus. It's only €6 each way, is a little faster than the train, and the bus stop in Siena is about a 10 minute walk from Il Campo where as the train is quite a bit further out. Service is approximately every hour or two depending on time of day. You get the bus in Florence at the bus terminal around the corner from the train station. If you are standing with your back to the tracks you go out the right hand door, cross the street and it's just around the corner. There is another bus stop on the other side of the Florence train station, you don't want that one.

Just so you can make your decision based on FACTS:

trains take 1 hr and 46 minutes; the fare is 5,50€

The Siena train station is at the bottom of the hill next to the walled part of the town; you can either walk, take a city bus, or a taxi into the walled part of the city itself.

Oh, and by the way, on the train you'll see more than a highway.

You can take the train, but the station is not not close to the Campo..you will need to take a local bus or a taxi. Take the bus. The bus terminal in Florence is a block from the Florence train station. There are two types of buses-direct and milk run. As I recall, the fast bus takes about 1 1/2 hrs. Avoid the slow one, it can take an extra hour. The bus will drop you in the walled city and as noted earlier, it is a very short walk to the campo. Also stroll along the walls-there are many paths. Beautiful city, well worth the trip.
