Florence to San Gimignano: Train or Bus ?

What is the best option of transport to travel from Florence to San Gimignano from your experiences: Train with a change at Poggibonsi for the bus or direct bus from Florence to San Gimignano ?
Also does anyone know if there is a luggage storage a the train or bus station ?

I took the train to Poggibonsi because I had a rail pass. I think bus is easier, but I'm not sure there are direct buses. I think you have to change in Poggibonsi, but the fastest connections take only 70 minutes from Florence to San Gimignano. Beware that the bus down again from San Gimignano leaves from a different place than where it arrives. I did not see any lockers in San Gimignano or Poggibonsi.

We took the bus last year instead of the train because it was direct with no changes. You'll love the town - it's one of my favorites in Italy

Cherie, I was not aware that there is a direct bus to San Gimignano. I've always gotten off at Poggibonsi. Was yours a SITA bus taken from the terminal? This would be good info to know, thanks!

townshipper, we bought a RT ticket from san gimi to Florence at the little store on the right coming down the hill to the bus stop.
There was a change, but no big deal. Just get off the bus, cross the street (follow the others) and wait about 5 minutes. reverse the procedure going the other way. took about an hour - no problem at all. ended up at the big bus station in florence with buses returning at least once an hour. Have fun! (excuse my typing)

Hi all, just another quick question; can we buy a ticket from Florence to Siena but make a stop over all day in San Gimignano ? Same thing from Riomaggiore to Florence with a stop over for the afternoon in Pisa ?

I think a train ticket for short rides, like this one, is good for 6 hr from the time it is stamped.

With those plans you really need car.
