Florence to Rome
We will be driving with our two kids 21 & 16 from Florence to Rome over two days. Any suggestions on places to spend the night? Thanks.
|
Orvieto is a nice place for an overnight, directly on that route.

P.S. Hotel suggestion would be welcome as I love fun hotels. Thanks

We stayed at the Palazzo Picolomini in Orvieto. We also were with our kids (9 & 12 at the time) in a family suite. It's a very nice hotel right in town.

Meander down the Via Cassia[S-2] south from Siena--stopping at Montalcino[small diversion] and Bagno Vignoni enoute to a nice B&B just outside of Orvieto- www.locandarosati.orvieto.tr.it
Enjoy Orvieto the next day and also day trip to fabulous Civita Bagnoregno of Rick Steves fame--only :25 away. You can also drop the car at Orvieto and train into Rome if that is your destination. FCO is about a 1:30 drive. |
We stayed at the Hotel La Badia just outside of Orvieto a few years ago. Wonderful view of Orvieto, the hotel is a converted Abbey. Has nice swimming pool which could be a plus for the kids and the restaurant is excellent. The room we had was very large, had a sitting area, big bathroom and small balcony overlooking Orvieto.
