Florence to Pisa

I will be one day in Florence,I really want
to see Pisa. How would you suggest I should
plan my day to see the best of Florence?
Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Do you mean that your 1 day in Florence also includes going to Pisa? If that's the case, take the first train in the morning into Pisa (I think it's 1 hour or less to get there), walk through the city to the Leaning Tower, snap picture, walk back to train station (there's also a bus, actually). Depending on how quickly you can get to the Tower and Back, if you left Florence at 6 am you could be back by 9 am (and maybe even have time to stop in one of the neat churches in pisa that are along the way to the Tower). Just make sure that when you arrive in Pisa station to check train times for when they depart from Pisa to Florence so that you'll know when to be back, and don't miss a train and have to wait around for the next one.

I'm assuming you want to see the main sights, so then go to the Ufizzi (having made a reservation in advance, go to the Uffizzi website and call the phone number for the reservation). After the Uffizzi, see either the Accademia or just wander around into whatever church or building looks good and is relatively uncrowded. Make sure to take a stroll on the Ponte Vecchio and into the markets, and buy yourself a treat.

My favorite church in Florence was Santa Croce, but just about every building you see will be gorgeous. Another favorite spot for us was the Ufizzi courtyard and the area just around it--we found ourselves there again and again.

thanks for the great advice, but is it easy to find a train station?I know I sound paranoid but I will have so little time there I really want everything planned

Yes, the train station in Florence is actually fairly large and it is also a major bus staion as well. Where are you staying in Florence? How are you getting there?? Maybe I can be more specific if I knew that stuff.

Hi Profi,
If you are starting from Livorno you can take the train directly to Pisa. It's 15 min.

You can then go on to Florence (1 hr)and then back to Livorno (1:22).

See www.trenitalia.com and enter "Livorno Centrale".

Are you on a cruise and have one day on Florence??? I'm wondering because Livorno is the port for Florence. If that is the case - you could hire a cab to take you to Pisa - see the Tower and then go on to Florence. We did that when we were pinched for time and it worked out well.
