Florence to Corsica for 3 days in April -- or Cinque Terre instead?
 

My DH and I are planning our 11 day trip to Italy this April. We plan to start in Florence (4 nights) and initially thought about going to the Cinque Terre from there. All of the sudden, we are considering taking the Ferry off Florence to go to Corsica. My sister just got back from Corsica and LOVED it......
1. How is the weather in Corsica in mid April?
2. Is this worth it for the 3 days we would be there? How is the Ferry? I understand it is a 3.5 hour trip.
3. Thoughts about how worthwhile this is vs. going to the Cinque Terre for that same period of time?

I love Corsica too, but with only 3 days, you really don't have enough time. We spent two weeks and wished we could have stayed longer.

When you add in travel time, you won't get much more than a glimpse of the island -- and it deserves a lot more than that. I would stick with the Cinque Terre and save Corsica for another trip.

I agree with Magster2005 -- although I absolutely love to visit Corsica, Cinque Terre, is easier to do with only a short amount of time. Three days doesn't really give you enough time to visit and experience the island.
That said, I am all for squeezing big destinations into tight timeframes if it's truly a place you want to visit and you don't know when you might have another opportunity to visit. If that is the case, then I say go for it. Corsica is an incredible place!

The weather in April is really way too iffy to commit going to Corsica, and I also think you should have a firm plan "B" if you want to substitute le Cinque Terre. April is springtime in Italy, and it is a rainy time of year. If you book into a purely scenic spot like le Cinque Terre or Corsica, you are really very stuck if it pours rain for 2 or 3 days in a row.

If you have your heart set on seeing either, book a place with an excellent cancellation policy and watch the weather when you are in Florence. If the short-term forecast says rain, cancel and move on to plan B.

There are a zillion fascinating and beautiful places within easy reach of Florence, and unless you are traveling on April 25, you won't have a problem finding last minute accommodations within your budget.
