Florence to Cinque Terre to Rome via train
 

Wondering how easy it is to travel from Florence to 5terre and then on to Rome via train. Is there a scenic route along the coast? How long a trip?

This past sept. we traveled from rome to cinque terra to florence to assisi back to rome and had a good time. the traim from rome to cinque was uneventful as was cinque to florence. The train from florence to assisi and back to rome was great. I love your plan- respond if you have other ?s about these areas

Hi Brando! I am leaving in two weeks. We plan to take the train from Rome - Cinque Terre and then on to Florence. Did you change trains in La Spezia? This is what I heard we will have to do on our way to Montorosso (part of Cinque Terre) Let me know what you did in terms of transfer etc. on each leg and how much you spent. Also, did you buy your train ticket to Florence right away when you arrived in Cinque Terre or did you wait until and buy it the same day as your departure? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

We went from Orvieto to Cinque Terre and we changed trains in Pisa, where we took a detour to see the leaning tower and back on the train (about 90 extra minutes). It was great.

Yes you have to change trains in la spezia, no big deal trust me. Take the train to monterossa and buy a cinque terra train pass. you can but 1 day 3 day or 5 day and lets you travel buy train between the 5 towns la spezia and genoa, its a good deal. Monteousa is the biggest of the 5 and most touristy. I would recommend the hike between monterousa and vernazio is my favorite. we traveled to cinque terra for 1 day to do that hike. if you have other ?s email at [email protected]

Forgot to answer last question my wife and I probably spent 100 euros for the both of us round trip from rome to cinque terra to florence to assisi and back to rome- give or take 10-20 euro.

Last thing I swear- buy your ticket to florence in la spezia not cinque terra- much easier. Look for a man at the train station named cordoba- we rents apartments for 25-70 euro a night we have had good luck with him our past two trips. He only has places in monterousa though- you might want to stay in the other towns we wished we would have except monterousa has the beach

Okay, you have me thinking our trip again. My husband and i spent some time in 5terre - loved it! We are going back to Rome with older kids and were going from Rome to Amsterdam - Prague, etc.
BUT, now I wonder how difficult it would be to take a train from Rome to 5terre and then where could we fly out of from there to Amsterdam?
We drove the last time, so we really meandered around before finally arriving- i have no idea by train?

www.trenitalia.com for schedules, fares and chance to buy discounted PREM tickets or regular tickets. there is an Italian railpass but you're not nearly traveling enough to make it pay off. You can also buy all your tickets upon landing at Rome airport, including reservations that are mandatory on many long-distance trains.
