Florence to Cinque Terre
 

My fiance and I are getting married in Siena. We will need to get there a week in advance to take care of the necessary paperwork, I am not complaining, but this cuts into my post-wedding vacation time. (not to argue that point) but I was wondering, with limited honeymoon time, our plan was to spend a few days in the Cinque Terre to relax and hike the towns. Is it feasible to do this from Florence. We want to save a few pennies and not rent a car for the honeymoon. Is there any way to get to the Cinque Terre from Florence? Are day trips from Florence possible? We want to avoid carrying around our luggage, so day trips are preferred. If day trips from the CT are unreasonable, what would you recommend? (FYI - the honeymoon starts Saturday and we will be leaving from Florence on Wednesday.)

A daytrip to the CT from Florence is going to be long and not at all relaxing. You will need to get an early start, leaving Florence by train to La Spezia around 6:00am. Then, it's about a 21/2 hour trip to La Spezia. From there, you need to get to either Riomaggiore or Monterosso, depending where you want to start the hike. Hiking to all five towns takes the better part of the day, especially if you want to spend any time exploring. Then you need to get back to La Spezia and then back to Florence. Doable, but a very long day.

Why not Lucca---worth a day for sure.
The CT is too far for a day trip.

You can do Venice or Bologna as a daytrip from Florence.

In your original post you say you want to spend a few days in the CT. Why not stay there? You'll find accommodations in the CT are likely to be cheaper than Florence anyway. You can easily take the train to La Spezia then the locale to whichever CT town you choose to stay in.
