Florence to Cinque Terre
 

Hi,<BR>Could someone let me know how to get by train from Florence to Cinque Terre and how long does it take...<BR><BR>Thanks for the help

From Florence take the train to Genova (make sure it stops at La Spezia)From here you take the local train to all 5 villages. Consider about 2 hours approx

You will find timetables, costs etc on www.trenitalia.com<BR>You have to key in the Italian names for places, such as Firenze not Florence. The Cinque Terre villages are Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare. The local train stops at them all. To get to Siena you will first have to go to a main station such as La Spezia or Genova.<BR>Kay

Go to www.trenitalia.com to obtain the information. Click the Union Jack, the Engish version will come up. You may want to find out which town you want to get off (destination). You need to type in the date and time, then click on search. A schedule will come up. You may want to look on page 2, 3,.... for other time table that will fit you. Then go to the far left column and click on "select", a new page will come up. You should be able to follow what you want to do. It will give you the duration and cost of travel.

Actually, the trip is a bit more complex than Dario sys. you will have to take a train from Firenze to Viareggio or Pisa, in either Viareggio or Pisa take another train to Genova (I think that they all stop in La Spezia, for sure Eurostars do!), than from La Spezia take another train to Cinque Terre.

Firenze to Riomaggiore (CT) is 3 1/2 to 4 hours away. There is no direct train there. To echo the earlier posts, you should check either Trenitalia's website, or call Rail Europe directly at 1-800-438-7245 and they can send you train schedules for cities via fax ahead of time. That will be useful in helping you plan your travel.

Actually, in any case, you do not need to buy your tickets ahead of time. For most of the trip you will be travelling on trains that do not even allow booking, and you may (but may only!) happen to catch a train that allows seat booking only in the Viareggio-La Spezia part of the trip, which is but 40 minutes long. Your best option is to buy your tickets at the railway station soon before leaving to Cinque Terre, you will spend less money and there is no point in buying tickets in advance if you can't book anyhow!
