Florence, then...itinery Suggestions

My husband and I are leaving April 12 for Florence and have until April 18, when we return to US. How long can we plan to see all the important sights in Florence and then day trips from there? Please may some suggestions (even though we have been to Venice, we may like to spend a day there again.) What would be the connections to any of the places suggested, and any suggestions on Hotels, pensions, B & B's in the suggested destinations? (We've been to Rome, but again, could have used a few more days there.)

We have never been to Amsterdam and was thinking of that city, perhaps, for this trip. Which city do you prefer, if you have visited either of them? We would be arriving in Amsterdam on either the 12th, or 13th. Would 5 days be too much for the area, or would day trips from there be suggested?

We would be flying into Frankfurt and then going on from there. Please help us. Thanks.

I hope you've got passes on Ryanair for life, or something like that. Just pick up Rick Steve's book on Europe and you can probably drop by any of the places he recommends. Surely, this question isn't for real :-D

On the off chance that this is a legitimate post, would you please explain that again?

You are flying into/out of Frankfurt and want to know what to do in Florence and Amsterdam in one week?

Look, I guess I didn't know how to explain that I would like someone to help me with an itinerary for either, or both of these cities. We would decide between them. We could fly into London, Paris, or Frankfurt depending on which city we decide on for the 5 day trip.
Fodorites with experience in either of them could help plan, especially knowing what good day trips there might be.
Hope that explains it.

Hi P

I would spend the whole trip in only one city, in this order:
Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome, Amsterdam, London

The answer from ira is just about perfect. If you do decide on Venice (plus Florence, since you say that you would like to return to Venice briefly), then you could fly from Paris to Venice cheaply on www.volareweb.com then train to Florence after Venice. You could either return to Venice for a return flight, or take the 95 minute train onward for one day in rome, since you can also fly back to Paris cheaply from there.

With only three days in Florence, you could choose either NO day trips, or Siena (perhaps best on the SITA bus) or San Gimignano (not sure what public transportation best for that). If time and budget allows, try making it up to Fiesole (a suburb of Florence) for an evening dinner or cocktail at the Blu Bar, or splurge for dinner at Villa San Michele, if the weather is nice to see Florence twinkle in the sunset/night.

Best wishes,

Rex
