Florence/Southern Tuscany

Can anyone recommend a three day Florence/S. Tuscany trip? Ie. Where to stay (3 star and above hotels) and what to see (we definitely cannot miss the wineries and good food). Also, we will be picking up a rental car in Florence and I am trying to determine what is the best place to drop off car. We will then head on the train for Rome.

Thanks.

If all you have is 3 days and you "can't miss the wineries", I'd say rent a car at the airport and drive to Chianti or southern Tuscany for 3 nights. If you stay in Chianti you can return car in Florence and train to Rome.
You also (especially if you are in so. tuscany)can drive to Rome.
This gives you an option to "peek" at Florence your last day and see what you need to come back to when you have more time.
Another possiblity is stay in Siena and take a side trip to wineries and then train from there.

Hi Nicole,

For 3 days, I suggest you stay in Siena and take the bus one day to see Florence.

You can visit the Enoteca in Siena, and arrange for a wine tour.

I'd look at Montalcino for the Brunello, the finest Tuscan wine. You can drive to Orvieto in a couple of hours and the train to Rome takes one hour.

All,

Sorry, guess I should have written this before. We arrive in Florence and spend the night, then I will plan to pick up car in Florence and drive to S. Tuscany. My main concern is what to see for two full days in S. Tuscany and where to drop off car. Thanks!!
