Florence Sights
 

We are going to Florence this June. What sights are MUST SEE and do you recommend we get reservations in advance (for museums, etc.)? If so, any suggestions?

Click on the Destinations button above and go to Florence for an overview. I can't say what is MUST SEE for you because I don't know anything about you. Florence is considered by some to be the greatest art city in the world. Do you like art? Painting? Sculpture? Prefer the Renaissance or Medieval periods? Architecture of both or which? Food? Shopping? Monuments? Markets?

Florence has great things is all those categories.

For the Uffizi and the Accademia, it is best to have advance reservations. It is necessary to reserve for the Brancacci Chapel (not on everyone's MS list, but certainly a great experience). The Bargello takes reservations, but they aren't always necessary. Maybe in June, though.

I agree with the other poster that must sees are dependant on what interests you. That said, one of our favorite things to do was to walk up to the Piazzale Michelangelo and take in the views around sunset.

Well, I can tell you what made our list when we went last year for one full day and two half-days. Obviously, the Accedemia to see David was tops. The Uffizi made the list, as well as the Duomo, the Baptistry, and the Ponte Vecchio to shop for gold. We checked out the Duomo Museum too, since it's open on Mondays. We would have loved to have made it up to Fiesole and to the Piazza Michelangelo, but rain spoiled those plans for us. Definitely have your hotel/B&B make the reservations for the Accedemia and the Uffizi for you. That worked out great for us. Have fun! Florence is a beautiful little town.

As already stated, it very much depends on your tastes. On my first trip to Florence, I spent much of the time just wandering around the streets, and "popping in" to places that took my fancy.

For me, the highlight of the trip was Fiesole - Catching the bus up to the town, looking around the museum, picnicing in the theatre and then walking back towards Florence just absorbing the views. (There was a bus stop ever 200 metres or so,and frequent buses, so when we got bored or tired, we just hopped back on the bus)
