Florence, Siena or Pisa?

We are headed to Italy (still can't believe it!) and I would love to take a day trip from Rome and my DD wants to see some castles while there. Suggestions on the Tuscany region? They are all so lovely and beautiful I can't seem to decide...we'd be taking a train early in the AM and headed back that night to our hotel in Rome. Thanks for any input.

There is plenty to do in and around Rome itself without the need for a major day trip. If you must, then Florence purely because of travel times. You can get a fast train to Florence in around an hour forty.

Siena, although nearer, is a far longer trip as it involves a change of trains at Chiusi or Grosetto - and then you need to get from the station up to the city itself. Pisa is another 3 hour plus trip.

I was looking at caftours.com and it piqued my interest in a day trip.

If you must then train to Orvieto and enjoy. But, Rome demands at least 5 days.

Orvieto? Hmm. I have about 9 days not including the first day of sleepy jet lag.
