Cam, not very very close to Uffizi, at the opposit shore of Arno river, 15 minutes walking, I advice, into he range of your budget, La Scaletta, a very pretty 2 stars hotel at the highest floor of an ancient palace of XV century. Rooms, only eleven, are simple, but there are wide terraces with view on Palazzo Pitti and Boboli's garden.
Ciao.

Dear Cam:
I don't know what the price is now, but the 3-star Hermitage was our home in Florence. It's hidden away, but practically on the Ponte Vecchio. We walked through the Uffizi courtyard every day on our way to the other sites.

I cannot help you with hotels, but I have a small advice: If you are not in a group, get your entrance tickets to the Uffici Museum in advance, otherwise you will not get in. In autumn, we arrived there and they told us that they were sold out 10 days in advance. Look it up in the Internet.
