Florence schedule in May
 

Trying to do Florence in a day. Arrive at 10am by train. Uffizzi at 11, science museum at 12, lunch, Ponte Vecchio experience, Piti Palace, Bargello, Duomo and museum, Baptistery, Academia at 6, dinner and train leaves at 8. Sound crazy or do-able? Thanks already

Wow! That gives me a headache just reading it!

I can't imagine that you will be able to do all of this and still enjoy Florence. Why not just pick the ones you absolutely must do and leave the rest for next time?

Even doing more than two museums in one day is too much IMO. But if one day is all you have . . .

Tuesday is our day in Florence.

Do you have advance tickets? There will be lines...

That's a lot to hit in one day! You won't be doing justice to the various sights..But you can do anything if you put your mind to it--I ate meals (just sandwiches from nearby shops) while waiting in lines, FYI.

I see you haven't really factored in the time spent in line to the museums.
If you pull this one off please post how you did it...I for one would love to know if it really IS do-able!

Yes, if you don't have advance tickets, often the Ufizi line is 4+ hours long. Accademia line can be around 1-2 hrs.

You may need to skip the science museum as it closes at 1pm on Tuesdays.

The Pitti palace is several museums in one, as well as the Boboli Gardens. You will have to be selective in what you do there.

I just found my other posts. I'm new to this forum process. I thought they'd been lost! Oh well. If you repied to me another time. Thank you then too. Our family does tend to cruise art museums rather than study them. Have an engineering student son who would likely enjoy the science museum more so we have to see it before it closes. What would you drop?

I just looked back at my trip notes from last year.

This is what I did, just as an idea to how much time sights take (and I was very tired of seeing artwork, etc. at this time b/c I had already been traveling a few weeks):
Day 1: afternoon (I slept all morning, how tragic!):
1.Santa Croce (highly recommended, Galileo, Michelangelo & Machiavellia are buried here)
2.walked around Piazza della Signoria (it's almost impossible to not walk through)
3.went through Palazzo Vecchio (you'd be fine skipping this, in my very humble opinion; Palazzo Pitti has so much more)
4.walked through the Duomo, looked at the Battestiro
5.Archeology museum
6.went shopping for a bit, bought train tix, bought dinner, headed up to Piazza Michelangelo
Day 2:
1.10am: waited in line till noon at the Accademia
2.internet cafe
3.shopping/Ponte Vecchio
4. Palazzo Pitti

I very lazily fit all that in; I feel that could easily have been 1 day. The main sight I missed was the Ufizi and science museum. I just couldn't talk myself into the line (besides, I know I'll be back! and next time, I'll do Florence earlier in my travel itinerary)

Thanks again everyone! We are calling tomorrow to get our tickets for the Uffizzi and the Academia. My hope was to see what you guys thought about the schedule before locking us into a time at the museums. Maybe drop the Piti for now.
