Florence S.M.N. to Rifred train station

I am taking the train from Florence Rifred train station to Venice and my hotel is close to the Santa Maria Novella train station. What is the best and cheapest way to get to Rifred?

By train, bus or the new tram - trains shuttle constantly between SMN and Rifredi, only about two miles north - I have indeed walked between the two

not sure how bus route would go but the new tram goes right by Rifredi I believe and to me would be better than finding the right train, etc.

Thanks so much for your advise. I did not know about the tram -- I will give it a try! Ciao!

Are you sure that train from Firenze Rifredi to Venezia doesn't stop at the Santa Maria Novella train station before leaving the city? That's what I'm seeing in the timetables.

Some IC trains only stop at Florence Campo di Marte and Rifredi stations and do not backtrack into SMN and back. I recently took an IC train from Rifredi to Venice Mestrem where like in the Rifredi deal I had to take a shuttle train into Venice Santa Lucia.

ES high-speed trains Florence to Venice are unlikely to stop even at Rifredi.

OK, the IC trains at 13:40 and 18:43 don't stop at SMN. Perhaps you're taking one of these.

Deduct the tram fare from the euros you're saving by taking an IC train.

Book a train from Florence SMN to Venice!

I took the IC train from Florence Rifredi to Venice and though it takes a bit longer it can be much cheaper - perhaps Man in seat 61 did not realize this could have been a factor?

and getting to Rifredi is a snap - tram right there or any of zillions of regional trains from SMN
