Florence Rifredi
Does anyone know where the Rifredi train station is in Florence?
Thanks! |
It's NNE of the historical center, five minutes by train from Firenze S.M.N. Regional trains to/from places like Pisoia/Prato and Florence stop there on the way, and there may be separate, frequent service between S.M.N. and Rifredi. If you go to the Trenitalia sight and plug in both stations ("Firenze S.M.N." and "Firenze Rifredi"), you'll see how frequent trains runs all day.

Should read: Pistoia.

Thank you, Jean! We are considering taking a train from Rome to Florence Rifredi. Would it stop at Santa Maria Novella before going to the Rifredi Station? We are staying nearest to S.M.N. and want to get off there.
|
If it doesn't show FI.SMN on the Trenitalia Web site, it does not stop at Santa Maria Novella.
|
I checked several trains that go from Rome to Florence Rifredi, and none stop at Florence S.M.N.
BTW, you can search all the interim stops of a particular train. Go to http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html Input your search data. When the results come up, select a train and in the column titled "Info," click on "Details." When that window appears, click on the blue number in the column titled "Train." A smaller window will open showing all the stops and times. |
A train from Rome to florence would pass through Firenze Rifredi in order to reach Firenze SMN. However, it won't necessarily stop at Rifredi if it's going to SMN and vice versa.

Thanks to all for your help! Is the Rifredi Station near the Oltrarno area? That is where we are staying and hope to walk to our room. Maybe we can still take the Rome - Florence Rifredi train and take a different one from the Rifredi Station to S.M.N. if needed. I know these are small details but I am trying to get as much info as possible before we leave in 3 weeks so my family has as smooth of a trip as possible! Karen

Believe me, you do not want to walk from Rifredi to the Oltrarno! Rifredi is north of Santa Maria Novella; the Oltrarno is south of it, broadly speaking.
|
Many would suggest that you shouldn't walk from SMN to the Oltrarno either. It's at least 15 minutes of dragging luggage out of the station and through narrow streets on possibly crowded sidewalks just to reach the Arno River, never mind cross it and then find your accommodations. I have done it when I was younger (we were two fit 20-somethings), but it might be a challenge for some in your family.
