Florence restaurants - any dont miss or change some?
 

We have booked in Florence three different restaurants, based off TA and other reviews.

Any suggestions? Any dont miss restaurants in Florence? We want to have 1 upscale nice dinner. The dinner with the owner at Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina is 140 euros per person, which includes around 9 small plates and wine.

We really love food & wine and want a good experience. I am open to Michelin star restaurants, but the ones in Florence seem to be in the 200+ euros per person without wine, etc.

We will add to our list Procacci for our Florence visit in June. Pitti Gola sounds too pricey for our tastes. Za Za is also on our list--not expensive, fun atmosphere, and they do a very good Ribolitta.

A second vote for Procacci - always on our "to-do" list in Florence, somedays twice per day!

We had a great lunch at Da Rocco in the market in Florence, for a "local" casual lunch experience.

We have actually made a day trip to Florence from Rome for the express purpose of having lunch at Sostanza.

We had our best meal in Florence last week at : Trattoria Sostanza.

My favorite is il Latini, although I haven't eaten there is several years. The food is served family style and is excellent. It's a fun place,too. They start lining up at opening time of 7:00. I don't recall if they take reservations.

Latini and Osteria di Giovanni are fairly equivalent - they are owned by brothers. Latini is older and more known around so it is more crowded, but there is not a real difference in cooking or service between these two.

I will second Il Latini as a "fun" and tasty spot - though it has also been years since I was in Florence it was memorable for lunch.

One of our most memorable meals ever was in Florence at La Giostra. Perhaps it was because we met dear friends there who also happened to be in Florence but we had a fantastic dinner in a warm and charming atmosphere. We just asked the owner to take care of us, and he did with great food and wine and wonderful hospitality. I heard somewhere that the original owner has passed away (don't know that for a fact) - he was certainly part of the experience but I believe his sons are running the restaurant now (they were working there also when we visited).

I had a good meal here. Had the boar ragu over pappardelle. Don't recall what I had as a first course but the waitress did let me order a half portion which I still couldn't finish!

Like Lynnalan, we also enjoyed La Giostra last October. Can also suggest Trattoria I Che C'e C'e, near Piazza Signoria. We checked out Katie Parla and Elizabeth Minchilli websites for recommendations before we arrived.

I highly recommend Zibbibo on Via del Terzollina, 3/R, 50139 Firenze, Italy

It is not in the city center but worth the taxi or bus ride.

I had the famous Artichoke tarte and hubby had butter chicken at Sostanza. We split an order of pasta sugli and insalada misto and we each had the most divine meringue cake with raspberries and teeny tiny strawberries. We shared a table with a lovely young couple from Singapore; we had lovely time talking about traveling with them.

I looked at the Garga site, and they have moved locations since we were there, but it's been a family-owned restaurant for a long time and I'd expect the same high quality.

They offer cooking classes, which look awesome. You go shopping for ingredients with them, to the markets, and then create an entire meal. It ain't cheap, but it's probably a wonderful and authentic experience.
