I know you said nothing fancy....however, I ate a wonderful meal at La Giostra. Here is a link for location, etc. in the event you want to have a special dinner out. Good luck and save travels.

We were very disappointed with Il Latino.

Try Osteria Benci instead.

we had a great meal at osteria deibaroncelli near piazza della signoria. the address is :
via chiasso dei baroncelli1
or the website is
www.osteriadeibaroncelli.it
what made it extra special was our waiter, he saw my husband struggling with the language and just took the time to talk to us and help. he was so very funny and made us so comfortable. highly reccommend this place.

Another vote to stay away from Il Latini. This is a strictly tourist venue with paper place mats (unheard of in true Italian restaurants) and has more of an entertainment factor with tons of food that anything resembling authentic cuisine.

Before the fight starts as to Il Latini, let me say that you will love it or hate it-it is basic Tuscan food w/continuous crowds & an absolute need for reservations. My wife, son & I loved it, would go back again & we have recommended it to friends going in October.
I also recommend Perseus for the best bistecca but you must reserve & a great local place is Lo Scudo just behind the Duomo near the Duomo museum. Good luck
