Florence questions

Can anyone help with a few simple Florence questions?

We have to leave our accommodation by 10am, but we don't want to collect our car until late afternoon. Is there anywhere in Florence we can leave suitcases for a few hours?

How much would we expect to pay for a taxi from the city to Florence Airport?

Once we get the car from the Airport, we drive to accommodation close to San Gimignano. How long will that take?

Any advice will be most welcome.

What I would suggest is leaving the luggage stored at the hotel. Hotels in Europe routinely will do this for you.
Now, that assumes you don't mind driving BACK to the hotel to pick it up.
Another possibility would be the left luggage room at the Santa Maria Novello (the main) RR station...but leaving it at your hotel would undoubtedly be easier I suspect.
Cannot help much with cab fare estimates but hope what Ihave written will be helpful in some way.

Hi tass,

>We have to leave our accommodation by 10am....<

Won't the people at your accomodation let you leave your bags for a few hours?

>How much would we expect to pay for a taxi from the city to Florence Airport?<

About 10 - 15E. There is a charge for luggage.

>we drive to accommodation close to San Gimignano. How long will that take?<

See www.viamichelin.com. About 1 1/2 - 2 hr.

Hi,

Usually, you can stoore your luggage at the train station for a fee of 2 or 3 Euros. We stored a backpack in Venice while we walked around for the day. They do close the check-in site at midnight. Good luck.

Why not pick up the car in town rather than at the airport and save yourselves the time and the taxi fare. then storing the luggage at the hotel for free is the easiest solution.

Our cab fare from the airport was about 20 Euros including luggage-a little less I think. Your hotel should keep your luggage for a few hours. S.G is about 2-2 1/2 hours taking the scenic route. We drove out of Florence and stopped at the American cemetery just outside the city-it was highly worth it-very moving, and a quick stop.

If you picked your car up in town, it would also save you money. They charge a surcharge for picking up a rental car at the airport. So between that and the taxi, you can go out for a great dinner. San G is 1.5 hrs if you go directly. I do recommend the American Cemetery. Very moving. You will also want to stop in other villages. Driving out of Florence is not a big deal. Especially from the rental car pick-ups.

Yes, pick up the car in the City. We did and it was easy. San Gimignano was one of our favorites, we got there at 4pm after most tour buses had left!

Thanks everyone who commented - we like the idea of getting the car in town - thought the airport was the place !
