Florence or Venice?
Visiting Italy for a romantic second honeymoon? Which is more suitable? Florence or Venice?
|
Venice!! Hands down. (How much time do you have? Perhaps you could do both...)
|
We have 10 days, and we have only been to Capri.
|
I would do both, what a wonderful trip!

Hi walker, I see you have more than one post. Have you checked the responses to your other post?
Anyway, with ten days you sure can visit both Florence and Venice. What a beautiful trip that would be for a second honeymoon. BTW, it only takes about 3 hours of less to go by train between Florence and Venice. So you would not lose a lot of time travelling. And if you wanted either way you could visit Bologna or Padua if you so desired for the day. |
LoveItaly,
Thanks you for both of your messages. I didn't realize that they are only 3 hrs apart. We will try to do both then. |
Okay, if we fly into Rome, visit Florence and Venice, where should we end the trip? Ravello?
|
3 spots, Rome, Florence and Venice, are quite enough in 10 days, IMO. But if you want to finish up someplace different, consider a small town in southern Tuscany or Umbria. Less travel than to Ravello.

Hi walker, I have a friend who also posts here on Fodors. She and her husband had the most beautiful honeymoon at a villa near the small town of Reggello which is s/e of Florence. That might possibly be a beautiful place for you two to spend say three nights.
With ten days I wouldn't try to do to much however, you don't want to spend half of your time travelling, checking in and out of hotels etc and figure you will lose a good half day everytime you change locations. I will email this thread to my friend and if she has time hopefully she can tell you where they stayed on their honeymoon. Best regards. |
venice hands down, I agree....magical!
|
I agree that with ten days, I would do both. You cold split your time evenly between the two.

I went this summer to Rome, Florence and Venice for my 'first' honeymoon (lol) - we much preferred Florence over Venice. It's all personal taste. When are you going? We were there at the end of July and we felt like little sardines in a can - when it's too packed with tourists, it's definitely not too romantic. I would suggest not staying in Venice for more than 3 days. Check out a few other places, as per LoveItaly's suggestions...
Have fun! |
VENICE. Definitely more romantic.
