Florence or Rome in December?

I was thinking of taking a trip (about 7 to 10 days) to Italy late November / early December. The idea is to return to somewhere that I've been, stay in one place, and explore it more thoroughly without being rushed.

I've been to both Rome and Florence and I'd love to return to either one. My preference would be Florence, but I wasn't sure if I'd be able to handle the weather at that time of year. Is there a large difference between Rome and Florence in terms of weather at that time of year? If anyone is from the Washington, DC, area, I'd be interested in a comparison to DC weather in December.

I've already seen the historical data on weather.com and worldclimate.com. Their data differs slightly, and I'm really interested in hearing about people's personal experiences. Thanks.

Good morning, Vita Have been into the
R/F/V areas as late as the 15th of December. Found the weather mild, but
much warmer than Chicago. Venice had
some fog, days were mostly cloudy, but
not too much rain and no snow. Just
be prepared to layer clothing it the
best bet. Richard of Lagrange Park, Il..Don't recall any Christmas markets
in Firenze or Venice, however the Pza
Navona did have a large one..
Vita,
I was in Florence at the end of November and found it pleasant. Clear! Chilly! Layered clothes. Fun to shop for leather boots. The regular market near the Arno and another set up for the holidays.
It gets dark early in the winter months. Fond Memories. Sophie
