Florence on the cheap for students

My son and friend are looking for a cheap place to stay in Florence in July. Looking for recommendations for lowend places that cater to students? What's the expected price range?

I'd suggest looking at the Hostels forum at the Eurotrip.com/forum site. One place I've seen suggested a number of times is the Instituto Gould:

When I was in Florence last year, I stayed at the 2* Hotel Alessandra, where I saw an extaordinary number of American students. Perhaps they offer special student rates? It's worth a look. Good luck!

Hi Marmot,

Unless they are looking to party, I can highly recommend the B&B Peterson.
My wife and I stayed there for 11 nights.

Try reading &/or posting on Lonely Planet's BB called The Thorn Tree, Western European branch. Their focus is much more aimed at budget/student travel than Fodors (not that you can't get good advice on both forums!). Do they want a hotel or a hostel (i.e., a private room or dorm-style accomodations)?

(no, you don't have to be Canadian to use the site)

And as previous poster suggested, you'll find better info for your son's demographics on the Thorntree ---http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com\
