Florence on Sunday
It's been years since I visited Florence and this time around our stay is really brief. Our only uninterrupted day in Florence lands on a Sunday. I'm clear on what sights are and aren't open then, but can someone tell me what to expect for shopping and restaurants on Sundays? What about the leather markets around San Lorenzo? Ponte Vecchio shops? Thank you!

HI
Most small shops will be closed. Most sights such as museums will be open; active churches that offer Sunday services may be closed for all or part of the day for casual visits. |
Hi Sam,
We had no trouble with restaurants on Sundays. True for gelato shops, too. |
Hi
I just spent a Sunday in Firenze: the department stores were open, and jammed. The biggest book stores were open, and also crowded. Many of the shops near and immediately to the east of Piazza Republicca were open. There were street vendors in the area with a few purses, belts etc. The big food Markets were closed, as were Ponte Vecchio shops. Many, many restaurants are open. |
Thanks to all. I'm wondering if Sunday closings are different in the high season, i.e. when we'll be there in mid-May?
