Florence on Mondays

I've noted in some of my research that many museums, and attractions are closed on Mondays. With only 2 nights in Florence, I need to figure out if one of the days being on Monday makes sense. Can anyone advise?

hi, liztexas,

With so little time, Monday is definitely to be avoided in most Italian [and French] towns.

I try to time long journeys for mondays when I'm travelling "on the continent". [UK phrase for mainland europe, as opposed to the UK].

If you can't get out of it, you might want to check what is open - eg the accademia, the uffizi, the pitti palace - if any two of these are open , you'll probably find enough to do - but it would definitely be worth booking in advance.

the duomo, the baptistry and the campanile ARE open every day, I believe, but you might want to check.

regards, ann

I will be in Florence next month, one of the days is a monday. This is the day I have hired a guide to tour some vineyards in Tuscany.

Hi Liz,

I think that the Museo Archaeologico in Fiesole is open on Mondays.

Take the no. 7 bus from the SMN train station (1E 0:20 hr)

I suggest going up in the late afternoon and staying to watch the sun set over the city from the terrace of the Bar Blu.

Enjoy Florence.

Do not despair, I always take Mondays in Europe with a grain of salt. Of course I am sure not to be only on a Monday in a given place, but usually I use them to get from one place to another. To do some shopping, although in small towns some shops might be closed, to go to the hair dresser and mostly to enjoy the place I am in, going to side walk cafes, people watch and if something is open that I like to visit it. Also to visit churches I wish to see. checking carefully the time they are open. Good luck.
