florence museums
I am taking a globus tour in October to Rome, Venice & Florence. In reading the details, I noticed that it says I will see "David" at the Gallery of Fine Arts. Is this the Accademia? Also, anyone that may have taken a Globus tour in Italy, are you able to get reservations for the Uffizi from our tour director, or should I be working on that myself. Thanks.

"David" is at the Accademia; I don't know if it has an alternate name.

Regarding Uffizi reservations, you should check with Globus to be sure--policies change all the time.

I was on a Trafalgar tour with my husband last November on a Saturday. We went on a walking tour and saw "The David" in morning and had the afternoon to ourselves. It rained in the afternoon, so we took refuge in the Uffizzi. We walked right in and got a ticket in 5 minutes. I wouldn't worry with reservations. Also, most attractions close by 12pm or 2pm, except for the Uffizzi which closes around 6pm, so see everything else before heading to the Uffizzi on Saturdays.

Janey:
I highly recommend a reservation for both museums. When I was in Florence (May), the line for the Uffizi was all the way to the Arno! I would think your tour would make reservations, but be on the safe side and make sure they have done so, because you do not want to spend 1-2 hours waiting in line for a museum. I have only been to Florence once, so I am sure more experienced travelers could recommend a better time, but it was nice to know I wasn't wasting any time when I could have been exploring. Hope this has been helpful.

Hi Janey,
Definitely make a reservation! You could ask the front desk person at your hotel to make the call for you--ours called for us the day before and we had no problem getting the time me wanted.
Have fun!
