Thanks, Walter, interesting. Giuseppe Pallanti is pretty well known for this but how does one know for sure about these things is always as interesting to me as the theory itself. I am thinking of Lillian Schwarz's claim that Leonardo used features of Duchess of Aragon and his own self portrait to paint the picture. Come to think of it, Freud's suggestion that Mona Lisa's smile is an expression of the artist's erotic interest in his own mother is almost just as interesting!
