Florence - Michelangelo's David, which one?

I will be in Florence for a few housrs when I break my train journey from Rome to Venice.

I would like to visit the Duomo and see Michalangelo's David, however, I've not sure if I'll have enough time to get ticket to the Galleria d' Acadamia. Is the copy in the Plazzio Vecchio just as impressive, or is the original a must see.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thnaks in advance.

Hi partyon
If you go to another museum...we went to the petra dura museum which was amazing itself ...you can buy tickets to see David and just walk around the corner and go past the queue. It was easy and we went in within an hour of buying the ticket.
I think it was a hint in Rick Steve's Florence book.
Good luck and enjoy it...the real deal is the best!

I don't think that seeing the copy of the David is the equivalent of seeing the original. I also don't consider the David in the Accademia a "must see" for someone with very limited time in Florence. The city is full of amazing art treasures
The Piazza della Signorina and Palazzo Vecchio are well worth a visit apart from the copy of the David. If you are especially interested in sculpture you could also consider visiting the BArgello which has another David by michelangelo and a very different one by Donatello plus many other wonderful works

Hi P,

I'd rather spend 15 min with the real David than an hour at the Duomo.

You can make reservations for the Accademia as follows:

Uffizi and Academia Museum Reservations
The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 1010987 (dial around number), 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. There is a long listing of press 1 for this and 2 for that--press 4 for bookings. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 3 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services.

You will not be charged for the reservations unless you use them.

Have a nice visit.

Yes, I couldn't believe that I had tears in my eyes when I saw the David in the Accademia. And, you'll see other sculptures by Michelangelo on the way to David which are wonderful.

Do it, you'll not regret it.
