Florence-Lucca bus?

Can someone please tell me if this is the correct website for the Florence-Lucca bus?

Vaibus LUCCA (gruppo CTT Nord)

I'm having a hard time finding a time table. Also where exactly in Florence do we get the bus to Lucca and where do we buy tickets?

Molte grazie!

Don't know why you would take the bus instead of the train but here's a link to all the info you need for either: https://www.discovertuscany.com/lucc...-to-lucca.html

Yes direct trains that are dirt cheap - Acquista il biglietto con le nostre offerte - Trenitalia - no seat reservations possible and flat fare so just buy at stations. There may be reasons to take bus but trains IME always more comfy - being easily able to get up move around and better views out both sides.

The train lands you right across the road from Lucca’s front door, the bus more or less at the back. So in that regard one is no more convenient than the other. But I’m a big fan of trains when cost or convenience are more or less a toss-up, which they seem to be in this case.

To answer your question, Rome2rio.com says the buses to Lucca leave Florence not far from Santa Maria Novella (“SMN”) the main train station in the center of Florence. Address given for bus departures, Via Della Porte Nuove, 17, not far NW of the station.

I'm going to flog this horse and say that on the bus, you can encounter traffic jams in or out of Florence. The train is a better option.

Plus trains have bathrooms. Not that you want to use them, but . . . sometimes you gotta go.

Thank you everyone. We'll probably take the train! I thought the bus might be better like it is between Florence and Siena.

carolw: this bus is better between Siena and Florence because the train station for Siena is so far from town. The bus takes one to a central location in Siena. For Lucca, the station is right outside the walls and very convenient. Have a great trip.

Trains to Siena also take a round-about route via Empoli due to hilly terrain whilst buses go direct and yes near the top of the hill town.

Thank you tuscanlifeedit! If I"m reading the schedule correctly, it looks like we'll have to change trains. Hopefully that will go smoothly. It looks like we'd also have to change buses so train it is!

Yup have to change usually in Pisa Centrale -smallish station no problemo.

MmePerdu Aug 29th, 2018 10:04 AM

There are direct trains, too, no need to change if you choose one the direction of “Viareggio” rather than “Pisa Centrale”.

PalenQ Aug 29th, 2018 10:08 AM

www.bahn.de/en for some reason only shows via Pisa but I thought there were direct trains - ask at station when buying tickets - those are regional trains no benefit to buy ahead - no seat reservations even possible and flat fare - regional trains bought online have restrictions on validity period but all in all buying ahead would save some time I guess.

carolw Aug 29th, 2018 10:12 AM

Thank you! I now see there a couple direct runs.

Lucca can easily consume a whole day but if you wanted to pop by Pisa's Leaning Tower it's just a short train ride away to Pisa S Giovanni station a very short walk from that station - en route back to Florence. Even just glimpsing it is a treat.

We've seen the leaning tower. I'm very fortunate that I've been to Italy several times but never to Lucca
