Florence, Italy.. Hotels

Hi..

There will be four us traveling to Italy next summer, and we will be staying 3 days in Florence. I would really appreciate any recommendations for hotels in Florence. We would like to spend between 125-150 eruos per day on a room. Look forward to reading any recommendation that you would like to share.
Thanks,
Phyllis

I was supposed to go to Florence on my trip in March 2004, but my itinerary changed. We had reservations for Hotel Consigli (http://www.hotelconsigli.com/) for 150 euro per night for a large double room with a view of the Arno. There is a rooftop bar with a panoramic view, I believe. It was reccomended by JocelynP here on Fodors.com.

It looked nice, they responded quickly via email, and when I had to cancel at the last minute I was not charged a penalty. Although it is not in the center of all the major sights, I booked it because I don't mind a short walk, the price was right, and the view would have been spectacular.

Hi Momma Love,
Thanks for the heads up on Hotel consigli. I am definitely going to check it out.

Hotel Casci. Look at the reviews on Fodors and Trip Advisor: nothing but positive. Central location.

Hi everyone..
I want to thank you all for your help and suggestion. After reading several threads on Hotels in Florence, we decided to stay at the Tourist House Ghiberti B&B. All the reviews and recommendations were absolutely fantastic. Everyone one I read said it deserved a score of 5. The highest rating mentioned. I read several reviews on tripadvisor.com as well and they all raved about it. So it really was a no brainer. I emailed them personally and made my reservations. I checked some of the booking online web sites and they said no rooms were available for the dates that I needed next year. However, when I emailed them personally, they had the rooms available. So a tip from me, reserve your rooms through the hotel or B&B and not through a booking online site. That's it for now. I am really looking forward to our trip next April.
Chow!!

Good choice Phyllis- you will love the Tourist House Ghiberti. Stayed there for 2 weeks last April/May and loved everything about it!

Hi colleenk..

A question for you. Does the B&B have parking on the premises? We will be driving a rental car and will need parking. Thanks for the info.

Hi everyone.

Another question. We will be in Florence for 4 days. Do we need a rental car for all of those days. We will be heading to Tuscany after Florence, but am not sure if we need to rent our car for all four days in Florence, or just part of it. Thanks again for your help.

Phyllis - if it helps, I've written up some short reviews of places I've stayed in Florence (among other Italian cities).

I'd save the rental car until your last day. Florence can be a crazy city to navigate. On my last trip I made a wrong turn trying to find our hotel and ended up in Piazza Repubblica surrounded by tourists on foot - and sweating bullets trying to figure out how to get out - and which way I was allowed to travel. Those Italian guards around the museums with their very big automatic weapons encouraged me not to make a wrong move with the rental car.

Hi SFimporter..

Thanks for your advice. I will definitely keep that in my mind when deciding about renting our car. Many thanks for your info.

HI..
I have another question. We have never been to Italy, and wonder what the weather will be like the end of April to the beginning of May. Any info on this topic would be greatly appreciated. I have traveled to Europe before mainly France and have always packed too much. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Phyllis

Hi everyone..

Now that we are staying at Tourist House Ghiberti, I was checking what the B&B has for accommodations. They say on their website that they have a bath tub, but no mention of any kind of shower. Do they have a tub plus a hand held shower, or do they have just a tub? Thanks for your info on this matter.
