FLORENCE, ITALY Hotel

We plan to go to Florence for a week, using it as a base for sidetrips to Sienna, Pisa and Assisi.
We would like a comfortable hotel w/breakfast in town or a short walkng distance to town. We will definitely go off-season. We probably won't have a car.

Any e-mail addresses or web-sites would help.

Thank you.

The Lungarno is nice, and right off the Ponte Vecchio. The hotel staff is first rate and ask for a room on the Arno. Many web sites for Florence. Try charmingflorence.com.

We stayed at the Fenice Palace right near the Dumo. We loved the location and we had a very nice quiet room near the back of the hotel. This would be right in town and we did walk to the railroad station to take trips to Sienna, etc. We found it in a guide book and it may be on the internet.
Last month we stayed at the Nueva Italia. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly, and although it didn't have much charm (or lifts), the rates -- esp if you pay with cash or T.C. -- make it a solid budget hotel.

The only reason I would suggest it to you is it's GREAT LOCATION. It's 2 short blocks from the Florence train station & a half block from the indoor and outdoor markets.

Hotel Accademia (a short walk from the station and 1 1/2 blocks from the Duomo) was super. The room was spacious and very clean, the front desk staff (Teah) was so helpful and a gelato shop just across the street! The breakfast buffet was very ample and the bath was modern. Beds were comfortable and the location was great for getting anywhere. Highly recommend it. www.accademiahotel.net

We stayed at the Accademia as well, it is nice, just don't get a room that looks over the street..it's very loud all night.

we stayed at hotel casci. great location, very reasonable, quiet and clean and run by the nicest family. www.hotelcasci.com. I also hear that the hotel across the street, i think europa, is very similar in character. Casci also has a very nice breakfast.

lungarno with a river view is pricey, but very romantic.
