Florence in the snow

Fabulous! I am reading Agony and Ecstacy in preparation for an Italy trip next spring. Today's chapter was Michaelangelo being hired by one of the d'Medici's to create the ultimate "snowman"!

Marvelous! Thank you for sharing. I hope to see it without the snow in May. Best wishes for a happy holiday season.

Indeed great photos, thanks for posting! I guess this only happens once every few years, or even less? I am also glad to have seen it in September without the snow. Enjoyed the photos very much, however.

rncheryl, suggest you also take a look at two books by Ross King: "Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling" and "Brunelleschi’s Dome". Reading those greatly increased my appreciation of what I saw on our trip.

It snowed our first winter here - 2005 - and the story was that was the first time in 15 years. So yes, pretty rare right in Florence itself. It all is gone today with rain and temps in the 50s!

To the books discussed - I love Stone and "The Agony and The Ecstacy" is great book - but I think it is much more of a novel than the latter two mentioned. The whole theme of Michelangelo and his female lover... doesn't really hold up to the scholarship.

Brunelleschi’s Dome was excellent and I would second that recommendation.

And, The Feud That Sparked the Renaissance, by Paul Robert Walker awoke an interest in both Brunelleschi and Ghiberti. Oops, off topic, sorry.
