Florence hotel decision
 

Just discovered this site -- what a great community with so many valuable opinions! I'm a single woman traveling solo, spending three weeks all over Italy in July, first timer, traveling w/ one bag). Have narrowed hotel choices to ENZA, GLOBUS, CASCI, and GHIBERTI. Found references to all on this site and checked tripadvisor as well -- anyone have a favorite?

We stayed at the Enza for four nights and thought it to be fine. Our room was surprisingly large and passed DW's cleanliness check. That's not an easy thing to do. The en-suite bath was modern with an actual door on the shower. Large fluffy US style towels and a towel warmer too. The hotel begins one flight up if that is an issue for you. There is no elevator and I am not sure about A/C since we were there in January. The street is just outside the heavily touristed area and is a bit commercial in nature. However, it was an easy and interesting walk to everything e.g., about 10 minutes to the Duomo. There is a really good small and inexpensive restaurant about 2 blocks down the street (I wish I remembered the name). The 2 young ladies at the desk were delightful and had our Uffizi reservations set up as requested when we arrived. The hotel website says it is 400 meters or so from the train station. Not so, it is about a 15 minute walk.

Thanks basingstoke2 - that is just the kind of inside info I hoped folks would offer. Anyone out there ever stay at the Globus?

We stayed at Casci last March. Really wonderful people. You can't ask for a better location. Our room was simple, but clean, had everything we needed, and bigger than expected. The breakfast is great and they have a computer to check email, etc.

I stayed at the Ghiberti last summer. Really liked the room and the location. The included breakfast was pretty bad and the hosts were a little strange. What I really liked is that you had a computer with internet in your room and the A/c worked great!

We stayed at the Casci a few years ago and loved it! The location was fantastic, but the owners were the real gem. So helpful. Our room was large, the bathroom small, but not bad. We would definitely stay there again.

We also stayed at the Casci a few years ago. The location is excellent, and as other have said, it's a clean, simple hotel with really nice owners. it's not luxurious in any sense, but we were happy there.

Add another vote for the Casci. Stayed there in Sept 2005. Family owned, helped with reservations for the Ufizzi after I was unsuccessful booking it myself. Decent breakfast. Although I reserved with a credit card, I was able to get a discount by paying in cash at checkout.

We're booked at the Casci in October. Both travel books I have, as well as Fodorites here, led me to book there. And I must tell you, just in the emails between us and the Casci...very, very nice folk! :) Can hardly wait to give my review this fall. :)
