Florence- Hotel, B & B
 

We will be visiting our daughter in Florence in March. We would like to stay in a hotel or B & B close to the Duomo or Uffizzi (hope that is spelled correctly?) . Any good suggestions?

I don't know if this is within your budget, but try Tourist House Ghiberti. It's about two blocks from the Duomo and is recommended by several Fodorites, including us!

Casci Hotel is a small family-owned B&B about 2 blocks from the Duomo and half a block from the Accademia (David statue). We have stayed there five times and would never consider anywhere else in Florence. It is immaculately clean, very comfortable, the family who run it are the type that "nothing is ever too much for a guest", and I highly recommend it.

The only thing you should know before you book is that it is on the second floor of what looks like an office building and it is not "fancy". But if you are looking for a good price, cleanliness beyond belief and personal caring service, this is your place.

We stayed at the Relais Cavalcanti, and had a room overlooking the Piazza Nuovo Mercato. The rate was 99E/night cash, and 105E credit card, and that was for a room with a view.

They don't serve breakfast, but have a nicely equipped kitchen with pastries, cereal, toast that you can help yourself to whenever you like. Also a bar fridge in the rooms.

The two sisters who own the property were very helpful and charming. It has an elevator, which is always a nice bonus.

It was a 10-15 minute walk from the train station and 3 minutes to the Uffizi and maybe 8 - 10 to the Duomo.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

We recently stayed at Hotel B&B Casci. The location is great. Better even are the kind people who take care of you. It may not be a fancy place, but I have never felt more cared for than there.

I highly recommend Hotel Burchianti, about 2 blocks to the Duomo. A delightful place, we just left Florence four days ago after staying there. Mario, the manager, is a true gentleman, and is very helpful making museum or restaurant recommendations. Frescos on ceilings, nice breakfast in the mornings, rooms are very quiet at night. A very small hotel, on first floor (one flight of stairs or small elevator. We paid 130 euros for a triple. I stayed there also one and a half years ago with my children and got the same personable and professional service.

You can't beat this place. It's like the Baptistery and the Duomo are in your room. If you had long arms you could touch them :-).

It is a 4th floor walk up...3rd floor European) But the price is great and the owners are wonderful. It's spotless.
