Florence & Venice Hotels between $100-$125 per night

We are thinking of going in the begining of May. Any information on decent hotels in that price range would be very helpful. What is the best way to get a rail pass to travel from Florence to Venice????

If you're just going between Florence and Venice, you'll do better to buy point to point tickets than a rail pass.

Elaine, you should try to do a search on this forum for hotel in Florence and Venice. You'll find dozens of recommendations. Some of which were just answered yesterday.

It is very easy to purchase railway tickets at the american express office in Florence. For schedules be sure to check www.fs-on-line.com(I think)...good luck...Maggie

We were pleased with the Hotel Al Gambero in Venice in Oct. 99 trip. Located on Calle dei Fabbri, midway between Rialto and St Marks. It is in your price range. Rooms, while small, have been remodeled recently as have the baths. We got Room #1 and enjoyed it. Would stay there again. Recd a recommendation for the hotel on this site originally.

Elaine, I always recommend Hotel Casci, that is very centrally located (A block away from the Duomo) extremely nice staff, b-fest served in a room with 16th century frescos the the ceiling! The price range is between $90.00-130.00 depending upon when you go. We had a huge room, but if you are a light sleeper, request a room in the rear.
This hotel has been mentioned a bunch on this forum and gets great reviews. I first found it in my Frommer's Guidebook.

My husband & I stayed at the Riva in October. We paid L180,000 for a huge room with a view of a small canal along the gondola serenade route. Our room also had a small, but new, bathroom. We would definitely stay there again. The hotel is behind Piazza San Marco.

Kim

Kim must've had the same hotel room as us. We were on our honeymoon. Hotel Riva is excellent.
Search for it in this forum... You'll find the thread about how they don't take credit cards, we fed-ex'ed them travellers cheques.
Not all the rooms are that big, but a hotel room is a hotel room, it's 2 minutes from St. Marks, and it's great; and, it's half the price of anywhere else.(L170,000/night is about $100?)
