Florence and Vencice
Can anyone reccommend good shops for leather jacket and pocketbooks, Also reasonably priced Venetian Glass.
Thanks |
I purchased my leather jacket through a recommendation at a shop in Santa Croce, can't remember the name of it by its on the corner by the church.

jmb67: :p You're kidding, right? On the corner by the church? In Italy? :D That's like saying here in the Pacific Northwest that it's right next to the Starbucks.
Heehee, sorry, I couldn't resist, all ment in fun... |
At least I narrowed it down to a specific piazza:)

After consuming too much wine (well, I guess you can never consume TOO much), my wife and I stopped in a leather store, and I purchased a cool, brown leather jacket (softest leather I had ever felt).
When I get home tonight (before I consume too much wine) I will post the name of the shop. Not inexpensive, but great quality jacket. I had Buyers Remore for awhile, but after wearing it a couple of times (unfortunately in So. Cal, it has been so damn warm lately, there's not alot of opportunity to wear it), I am glad I made the purchase. ((H)) |
Oh, by the way, I am talking about Florence. Geez, maybe I need some wine now. And be careful about that "Buyers Remore". Much worse than Remorse.

here's the leather school, they sell retail
Scuola del Cuoio Firenze www.leatherschool.it via San Giuseppe 5 (near Santa Croce) www.venice-world.com good site, including info on buying glass and other made-in-venice products Venice is an expensive place, and glass is one of its only industries, so bargains are few and far between. If you are shopping in the main area of Venice (as opposed to Murano) than any shop away from the hub of San Marco is bound to have better prices. If you do go to Murano, there are many glass shops that just sell souvenirs that may or may not be made there. If you want authentic, you want to go to a factory with a showroom. The company/factory I use: Albarelli & Nielsen, ponte Vivarini 143, 30141 Murano |
Following up on the leather school, there are few bargains, but very high quality work.
My wife found an absoultely gorgeous leather cape, which if it were 2000E less, I might have gone into debt for. Take a look at the booths around the Mercato Centrale. |
Hi! When we were in Florence a couple years ago we stayed very close to Santa Croce. The prices at the school were much more than the shops on the square. We bought from one, it needed altering which they did and had it delivered to our hotel. I suggest looking for what you like in that area and making an offer. Since we were buying two they made us a deal we could'nt pass up. It's cold right now and I love my coat! Also I must mention that I found the most beautiful pocketbook in Venice not Florence for a great price.

Bought a beautiful leather jacket at:
Ricordi P.ZZA S. Lorenzo, 5/r (in Florence) Good Luck! |
maitai,
Just how many wine stains are on that jacket by now? :) You must wear it to the GTG so we can all partake in this "softest leather you've ever felt." |
Oops Kingjolee, forgot to look last night. I'll get the place over the weekend.
And Jocelyn, I might wear it, but I would never eat or drink in it. I much prefer spiling on my shirt. ((H)) |
