Florence: airport to SM Novella train station

How do I get from the Florence airport to the Santa Maria Novella train station? My hotel is within walking distance of the train station and I'd like to avoid the "gypsy" cabs at the airport. I really don't even know what I'm to look out for, never having been in europe before. Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Albani in Florence?

Florence has the best taxi service I've ever used. The ride to the train station would be no more than E15. If you're concerned about getting a "gypsy" cab, you can have the Tourist Info desk call a taxi for you and they will give you a specific car number. The Tourist Info desk is right in the arrivals terminal next to all of the rental car windows. Don't hesitate to have a taxi called for you and you can pick up the free English tourist weekly newspaper at the Tourist Desk.

There's a shuttle bus that runs about every hour and the cost is 3-4E.

Bus shuttles leave from the airport each hour, arriving at the SITA bus station, just next to the SMN train station. If you don't want to use mass transportation, I agree with the others saying that you can ask the tourist info desk to call a taxi for you. Florence is not Rome, there are much less "irregular" folks around, be it cab drivers or anything else.
