Florence Airport Closing From March Through May 2006?
I just heard that the Florence airport is going to be closing for runway work from March through May of 2006. Does anyone know anything about that?
|
On another board, someone has posted that there was a short item about it in yesterday's edition of the Italian newspaper "La Repubblica." There was no information in the article of how airport authorities plan to handle the problem.
Another (Italian) poster wrote that Florence flights would probably be transferred to Pisa airport, which, it seems, has been expanded recently. |
I just read on slowtrav that someone confirmed with the airport that they will close March 31, 2006 for 2 months.

This is a wonderful example of Italian bombast and insularity.
The AdF website carries no information about this on its English pages. Tucked away in its Italian pages (because of course, only Italians would ever dream of flying to Florence) we're told... well not quite all about it. Dated Dec 15, it tells us that at some undefined point in the future, AdF will get round to presenting to just about everyone you can think of except its passengers its (and I swear this is accurate) "working plan...for the modalities for the transfer of passengers to neighbouring airports" I'd book my flights to Pisa or Bologna. If AdF can't be bothered talking to its customers, why should we bother using it? |
Hello, I work in the tourism industry and have just been informed by Alitalia that FLR will be closed from Feb 1 for "three months".
The official florence website doesn't confirm this information, but you'd hope that Alitalia would have the most up to date info. Most airlines appear to be reprotecting people to Pisa and Bologna. Good luck! |
Oddly, Lufthansa is saying that the airport closure is Feb thru March, as far as they are concerned. They are selling tickets for April travel into Florence.
|
I was booked on Lufthansa in April. They advised me that all their flights in and out of Florence will be diverted to Pisa instead. That screwed up my travel plans.
|
I booked on AF for flight into FLR at the end of May.
So far no detours or notice of the same. I've heard different dates, that possibly it would be done by the time I fly in 5/21. Sounds like they haven't set the dates yet. Guess the thing is to try to book an airport to town transfer and see what the transfer services are saying. You would think the airlines would arrange transportation from PSA to FLR or the Florence town center if the flight had to be diverted. But I know they're using Citijet or some kind of regional carrier from CDG to Italy. |
