Florence
 

My wife and I will be visiting Florence January 6 - 8. We would appreciate any recommendations for lodging ($60 - $120), moderately priced restuarants, and/or sites to visit. For lodging we would prefer something like a B&B, where it is easy to meet people.

Also, how difficult is it to get to the Florence Airport for an early morning flight (6:55am)?

The ride from Florence to the airport should take under a half hour by taxi.
Your hotel/b&b can reserve one for you in advance.

As far as sites to visit, have you purchased a good guide book yet? That will give you the highlights. Also, click on "destinations" at the top of this page, then work your way to "europe" then "italy" etc..and you'll see some site recommendations. Also, type in florence restaurants in the search field to get the latest suggestions. As far as hotels go, you can search here, look on www.tripadvisor.com and www.venere.com for hotel suggestions and reviews.

Hello Lyndell, I heartily recommend the Hotel Scoti. Stayed there this past June. It's really more of a B & B, maybe 11 rooms. It's nicely located, run by wonderful people, especially Doreen who is Italian but raised in Australia. She will happily offer great ideas of what to see and do, where to eat, etc. Believe we paid about $120US, fairly cheap for Florence. There's an elevator in the 16th (or so) century lovely building, which was a treat after hiking up many flights of stairs prior to Florence. Check "trip advisor", florence and hotel scoti, rave reviews + Hotel Scoti has their own website, can't remember the exact address. They can be emailed@ [email protected] and Doreen replies promptly. You can't go wrong with Hotel Scoti.

I can highly recommend the B&B Peterson. We stayed there for 11 nights in Sept 2003.

We liked the Johlea B&B and it was only about $100 per night. Our room was very nice and spacious with a loft area and marble bathroom ensuite. the B&B has a roof top terrace and a small sitting area on the terrace level--a refrigerator was well stocked with bottled water and we really appreciated this. It is within a few blocks of the Accademia.

Thank you everyone. I'll post my decision on lodging and how I liked it later. Currently, I'm wondering how the weather will impact the rest of our trip. We will be in Tuscany December 27 - January 8.
