I don't understand. Do you WANT to be outside Florence? How far outside?

Are you thinking of Fiesole?

Did you want something in the countryside of Florence?
We once stayed with our 2 young teens at the Relais Villa d'Olmo in Impruneta (about 30 min south of Florence). It is a beautiful, charming farmhouse-type accomodation. We rented the independent villa with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room, kitchen, washer/dryer, and private pool for 250 euro/nt. They had cheaper accomodations, but we splurged for the villa and it was gorgeous. You can day trip into Florence and use it as base for exploring the Chianti area. You can look it up and see photos on the tuscany.net website.

Inside Florence, we rented a quad hotel room for 225 at the Hotel Casci. It is very well centrally located, very clean, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. It was, however, a very basic room--no frills & no charm. I remember I had a difficult time finding a quad for less in a central location during what they call "high season".
(These prices were for June 2004.)

We stayed at the Casci one night, and enjoyed Florence for 2 days of heavy sightseeing/walking. Then we moved to the country for 3 nights and the kids enjoyed relaxing by the pool, taking lazy drives with us to neighboring villages for gelato, etc.

Hope the info helps. Have fun planning!

I'd suggest the following: www.villa-belvedere.com. It's just outside Florence, but is very quiet with a pool and beautiful gardens, free Internet, good breakfasts, and a fantastic and helpful staff. We've stayed there with our daughter two times and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.
