Florence- Pitti Palace
How long are the lines and wait to get into Pitti Palace? I booked the Uffizi and Accademia through my hotel just to avoid the lines. With this one I am thinking that we just can get our tickets the day of when we decide to go over. Is this a bad idea or should I book it through the hotel in advance as well? Thanks in advance

For the Uffizi there is often no problem in the off season. But, if you want to be sure, I would advise reservations.
By the way, my girlfriend and I made reservations for Christmas 2004 and we could have walked right in.
We did not go to the Pitti Palace.

Have been to Pitti in early April and late September. Both times got there when they opened and was only one in the palace for over an hour. Was wonderful. Like it better than the Uffizi and the Gardens are worth some time.
Both times also went to Uffizi and was too crowded to really enjoy it. Took a tour arranged by a travel agency about three blocks from the Uffizi first time and went on own second with reservations made by hotel. Accademia was full of tour groups but if u go early can miss most of them.

We went to the Pizzi Palace during peak time without reservation (July 2006 with Boboli garden after our Pizzi Palace tour). Must confess with other Fodorite,...was my favorite compared to Uffizi and Accademia. Plan to spend a significant amount of time if you are interested in art, history, or a break from the city in Boboli gardens.
