Just to clarify - they are not TVs. They are monitors. You can not watch TV shows... only what the airline has available on their network - which is usually a decent enough selection, mostly movies.
It is a PAIN to try and watch when the person in front of you has their seat fully reclined (and that's for most of the flight).
And BA seats in cattle class are very cramped.

Any more, there are very few transatlantic flights that don't have seat back video screens. Most airlines are converting to them - all of the ones listed in the above posts plus 3 or 4 other airlines I can think of already have them and more every year. I think every flight I've taken to Europe over the last 5 years has had them (on AA, BA, Virgin, UA and USAir)
The have several types of entertainment besides a choice of movies (the variety depends on the airline) - video games, TV programs of all sorts, the sky map that shows the flights progress, etc.

Underhill - I am 5'4" and it was very hard for me to scrunch down far enough in the seat to see the screen when the seat in front of me was reclined. That was on the airbus ATL-JNB. When they used the 7?7 for that route the seats in the upperdeck had the screens and they were much easier to see.

Continental has them on the flight from Newark to Rome.
You can adjust the angle of them. There was a selection of TV shows, movies, music, games. Often the quality was poor as the movies kept cutting on and off.
The head phones were free to use.

I've had them on all United flights from Dulles to CDG for the past few years. None of them swiveled or was adjustable in any way. Once I got an upgrade to business class because mine wasn't working, and another time I got a $75 voucher for the same reason.

As stated above, I think many airlines now offer the monitors on the backs of the seats for overseas flights. However, it depends on the plane. We are going to Rome on Delta next week, and neither flight going over or back has the monitors. Some of the newer or bigger Delta planes do, but apparently not the one we were on. Likewise, our Austria Air flight to Vienna last year did not monitors either. Our flights on American and Swiss Air both had them.

I go out of my way to get a plane without them. Besides not liking trying to view something on a screen 6 inches in front of my face, I need the leg room and the seat back systems usually come with metal boxes (transformers??) that take up part of the under seat room.
