WillTravel, you know, I didn't remember that JFK wasn't involved...and trust me I know it's stupid on my part, because I'm always the one telling friends that to be afraid of flying (which I'm not) is irrational because they could just as much get into a car accident on the way to work. So I think that unless things change, I will make my fears deal with it and save $300 -

I'm still going to wait a few more weeks, I usually buy my tickets about 3 months out..I leave on Sept 4, so I'll checking...the AA flights would work well, only 1 stop either way...

thanks again for pointing out the JFK situation...irrational fears are so crazy!!!! of course wasting $300 may be even crazier Ha! Ha!

update, I got my ticket yesterday. American Airlines, SFO to Barcelona through JFK, and returning Madrid to Sacramento through Dallas and for only $1046! Yeah! Yeah!
