In my trip to Italy two years ago, I flew from Chicago into Milan's Malpensa, which is a major airport, and returned to the U.S out of Marco Polo, which while a smaller airport than Malpensa, is comparable to most airports in secondary American cities.
In any event, from Malpensa we took a bus which takes you directly to the train station in Milan, and took the train to Venice. We had lunch in the dinning car, and the food was wonderful.
Enjoy your trip!

I think the OP has it down. But, I can't keep quiet when I read c**p like this:

"I just spend weeks researching this myself, one thing I noticed that raises prices quickly is the fact that most American Airlines are charging for checked luggage, which most foreign airlines are not. Watch out for this because it adds cost to the ticket, and is often hidden."

Well, Mr/Mrs ahessoniam, you are simply wrong. There is no discernable difference between US and EU carriers for TATL routes. You are blowing smoke and I would suggest you find another way to scam people from their monety.

CO does not fly to VCE. Nor had it ever flown there.

How funny, and no projection there huh? I cannot imagine what you are referring to, but I bet YOU KNOW. That's YOUR projection about scamming, making me wonder how you could possible scam people by sharing information? Could you inform me?

What is "monety" anyway?

I booked on Lufthansa in the end, one thing I really liked is that I can change or cancel my ticket for a fee. I booked the flight a few days ago and noticed that this morning it was almost $100 less, but such is life.

Continental most certainly flies to Venice.

What flight number, from where? If you mean it was in the past, then what time period?

CO to Venice... You must be kidding me.

We flew into Venice via Amsterdam (great lounge chairs!) on our honeymoon 5 years ago and took the boat from the airport to Saint Mark's Square -- fantastic way to arrive in Venice and, as I remember, reasonably priced (this is the water "bus", not water "taxi"). Loved Venice, a must see, if you ask me!
Oooooo! Flashback to a little table at the base of the Rialto, our last evening in Italy (we flew in and out of Venice) -- prosciutto, cantaloupe, a bottle of Soauve and my Sweetie!
I WANNA GO BACK!
