Flights to France from US for trip in the Dordogne Region

Flights to France from US for trip in the Dordogne Region
We'll be traveling mid June to stay in Sarlat. Where do you fly into? Paris then Limoges?
Train? We will then be renting a car, but don't want to waste time driving from Paris.
Any thoughts?

We flew into Toulouse after much thought. At first we were going into Bordeaux, but as we wanted to see Carcassonne and Albi we were advised on this site that Toulouse was a better choice. Worked for us. Happy travels!!

We booked Air France from Houston (IAH) to Paris (CDG), connecting to Toulouse (TLS). The Toulouse leg only cost an additional 30 euros. The airport at Toulouse is on the north side of town--the direction you will be travelling to head for Sarlat. In contrast, the airport at Bordeaux is on the west side of town, with a trip around or through Bordeaux required to get to Sarlat. There are other airports closer to Sarlat than those two, but I'm not sure that they are all served by the larger carriers, and on trips like this, I like to make the entire trip on one carrier, if at all possible.

Also you can connect in other countries as easily as in Paris such as London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Madrid depending on what airlines serve your hometown and which offer the best fares. Use a search engine like www.kayak.com or www.momondo.com for ideas.

We are doing this in October. Flying into Paris . spending the night then taking the train to Brive-la-Gaillarde to pick up our car,We are staying on the other side of Sarlat and Michelen say 1 1/2 hours from the train to our hotel in Vezac

Price was the determining factor for us. Despite the sound reasons for Fodorites' preferences for Toulouse over Bordeaux airport, I found the fares much cheaper into Bordeaux when I was ready to buy tickets.
(Now, naturally, British Airways has changed their schedule, turning a perfect fit into an awkward situation, but that's the risk I took booking so far ahead.)

We flew on US Airways from Charlotte, NC, to Charles de Gaulle; had a short layover and then took an Air France flight to Bordeaux where we had prearranged a rental car with Hertz. We were most fortunate to be offered an automatic car vs the prearranged standard transmission one. We then drove to Sarlat. We drove back to Bordeaux and went to the coast for a day trip and returned the car at the airport - very easy airport and car rental to maneuver. Caught a plane back to Charles de Gaulle.

Stu, My husband and I are thoroughly enjoying your trip report. It is packed with great info and time-saving tips.

Getting here is (fairly) easy through Toulouse, much better than Bordeaux. Or investigate the flights from Paris (and London) to the new Brive La Gaillarde airport. http://www.aeroport-brive-vallee-dordogne.com/en
