Prices from Minneapolis to Athens in mid-July were going for $1,600 in January and now are up to $2,000 with 2 layovers (verus one layover originally). I ended up using 100k ff miles to book my ticket on NWA/KLM. Tickets from NYC to Athens in Jan for the July trip were $1,400, best I could find on Olympic air and an American carrier (and I can't recall which one it was). Prices continue to rise, so book when you see a price you can live with.

We're going at exactly the same time. I bought our tix several months ago on Continental EWR ( Newark) to ATH ( Athens) and they were hovering at $1100 per. Good luck!

wparmar - Have you found tickets yet? Try www.kayak.com to get lowest fares. www.cheaptickets.com has a non-stop from Philadelphia for $986 on US Airways (Monday, May 26 departure) Just plug in your travel dates and see what comes up. Good luck.

We're flying in from JFK to Athens June and I looked at various options including stopping in the UK and switching to another airline such as BA or Easyjet. However, let me remind people that there is a risk. If your first flight out of NY, say on AA, is delayed and causes you to miss your connection, you are NOT protected on your second ticket. You may lose the ticket altogether if you are a no-show or be forced to pay expensive change fees.

With that in mind, we opted for Iberia, which cost about the same as the UK option. $1052 for travel dates 6/6-6/24. I later saw this ticket for $952 with a longer layover/less desirable connection.

It might be worth doing if you are interested in a UK stopover and can build extra time into your itinerary, but then you have to factor in the price of hotels, subways, food etc in the extremely expensive UK into your ticket.
