Flights From Germany
This is my first post on Fodor's in the quest to plan my trip to Europe in Sept. I am trying to fly out of Berlin on my way home but am not sure what airport to choose. I am coming up with:
Berlin, Berlin DE (BER) Tegel, Berlin DE (TXL) and Tempelhof, Berlin DE (THF) Any suggestions on which one is the easiest to find, get around, check in, ect. Thanks!! |
Where are you flying to? Not all the airports serve the same airlines and the same destinations.
And shouldn't this be part of your outgoing ticket? (If you buy two one-way tickets it will cost you a fortune.) |
I am flying back to San Francisco. I am looking into Mulicity flights. Leaving from San Fran going to Athens, then traveling up to Germany and flying out of Berlin back to San Fran. Does that sound possible??

All 3 airports are easy to get to either by subway, rail or bus. Pick whichever airport gives you the best fare and best connection.
There are only a few non-stop flights from Berlin to the US (I only know of CO), so your best routing will be through Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London, etc, depending on the airline you choose. |
For connections to the U.S., Tegel is the airport to look for. It is the city's main airport nowadays (and it's still a small one).
Delta and Continental both have nonstop- connections to the U.S. from Tegel. Tegel is located in the Western part of town. There are buses that will take you into the city center (should you be staying in the Eastern part, look for the "TXL-Bus"). |
